Founded in Lancashire in 1796 by entrepreneur Thomas Mason, the label has been a landmark for elegance and quality, in the world of English shirting tradition. They are the exclusive shirt supplier to the English royal family and are one of the first cotton mills opened in England. In 1992, Italian-based Albini Group acquired Thomas Mason and moved production to Bergamo, Italy where it remains today. The fabrics continue to be inspired by the brand’s long history while benefitting from the Italians’ equally long and proud heritage of manufacturing the highest quality textiles in the world with state of the art production methods resulting in the highest quality of shirting.
The story of Canclini Tessile started over 80 years ago, in 1925, when the company was set up as part of the silk industry in the Como area. In the 1960s Canclini moved to shirting fabrics. Today, thanks to its passion for work, dynamism, constant innovation and creativity, the company is one of the leading reference brands in the sector of high quality shirting fabrics producing fabrics for some of the world’s best brands including Zegna, Giorgio Armani, Prada, and Dolce & Gabbana.
Canclini fabric manufacturing starts from the selection of the best yarns and the great attention in every stage of production, as the spinning phase, the color dyeing, quality control of imperfections and finishing, the most important phase which gives lives to fabrics. The final result of the process is to improve the fabric appearance, it touch and its characteristics. Throughout its history, the company has been able to combine tradition with technology research, and today the new establishment in Guanzate employs over one hundred frames of the latest technology.
The Cotonificio Albini was founded in 1876 by Zaffiro Borgomanero at Desenzano sul Serio, in the borough of Albino. Since 1984 it is led by Silvio Albini, with his brothers Andrea and Stefano and cousin Fabio.
A fifth generation family business, the mill has retained a manufacturing tradition of craftsmanship and quality. Albiate 1830 is a high-end Italian mill that is now a part of the Albini Group. It was created in 1830 by Giuseppe Caprotti as a company that distributes yarn to weaving mills in the countryside. Over the next century the mill grows and it makes itself one of the leaders of the cotton sector. In 2000, Albini group acquired Albiate 1830 Milano. The 185-year-old Italian indigo specialists Albiate 1830 brand now presents itself to the market as an interpreter of a younger and sportier style as part of the Albini Group offer. The brand is internationally known for its authority in fabrics for sports shirts and denim.
Anderson & Lawrie, cotton manufacturers, was founded in 1822 and taken over in 1839 by brothers David and John Anderson. The Atlantic Mill was built in 1864 in Bridgeton, Glasgow. D & J Anderson expanded in the early 20th century, becoming a private limited company in 1911. Atlantic Mills was a major employer in the East End with 700 looms. The firm concentrated on the manufacture of high-quality dress fabrics with short production runs. Their shirts, in particular, acquired a strong reputation at the top end of the market. Light, natural, pleasing to the touch and refined in their designs: they are the features of David & John Anderson fabrics. The Fabrics by David & John Anderson are the face of the highest quality. Only starting from the selection of the best raw materials it is possible to create the most precious fabrics. The cotton in DJA collection are made with the finest yarns of Barbados grown handpicked Sea Island cotton which is considered to be the finest available Sea Island cotton. Only 70 bales of Barbados Sea Island Cotton is produced per year, and 100% of this Barbados production goes exclusively to the prestigious David & John Anderson mill in Italy.
